BEACH PATROLS APPOINTED

BATHING AT NEW BRIGHTON MAY BE DANGEROUS To protect bathers during the holiday season the surf clubs at the Sumner, New Brighton, and North Brighton beaches have once again appointed patrolmen. ,S. B. Mason, who is in charge of the Sumner district, began his duties on December 17, for a period of four weeks. The New Brighton patrolman, K. Preston, began his work on Thursday, and will probably be employed for six weeks. The North Beach man, F. Foster, reappointed from last year, will probably begin on Monday. Certain danger is foreseen at New Brighton because of the channel from the Waimakariri river. At low tide children can wade through the channel and then find themselves only knee-deep in water. With the tide coming in the depth of the channel would be increased, and with nor - west weather the drift there is very strong. ________________
