UNEMPLOYMENT
* HOLIDAY PAY FOR RELIEF WORKERS LARGE SUM BEING DISBURSED The holiday pay and bonus given by the Unemployment Board to relief workers are at present being paid out with the assistance of local bodies. The Christchurch City Council, the largest employing agency in the city, will have paid out about £4200 to between 700 and 800 men by mid-day to-day. The public works relief workers, of whom there are about 1200, are receiving pay for four weeks in one lump sum. Between £5500 and £6OOO will have been paid out to them this week. The department's pay-out is being made at the Unemployment Bureau in St. Asaph street. The threeday men were paid on Thursday, the one-day and lour-day men yesterday, and the two and a half day men will be paid to-day. The pay-out starts at 8.30 each day, and at 11 a.m. yesterday, there was still a queue wa'iting at the bureau.
£250,000 IN RELIEF PAYMENTS WAGES AND CHRISTMAS BONUS (I'RISS ASSOCIATION TJSLIQBAM.) WELLINGTON, December 21. About £250,000 is being paid out this week in relief payments throughout New Zealand. The payments include two weeks' pay without work and a Christmas bonus. In Wellington city and suburban districts the recipients of the payments, which total £28,896, number 6338. rAY-OUT OF £50,000 AT AUCKLAND (rRISg ASSOCIATION TELIGBAM.) AUCKLAND, December 21. A sum of almost £50,000 is being distributed among relief workers in the Auckland metropolitan area this week. It comprises the pay for the week's work just completed, two weeks' holiday pay and an extra week's pay as a Christmas bonus. The men are receiving from £4 to £7 each, according to their classification, but will not receive any more for three weeks.
