♦ DISTIXCITSHED SOLDIER AMON« THEM I THE PEESB Special Serrlce.] AUCKLAND, December 6. Several anglers, including Lieuten-ant-General W. W. Pitt-Taylor, a soldier with a distinguished war record, arrived by the Mataroa from England, to fish in New Zealand. Colonel G. H. Davis, of the Indian Army, arrived on his fourth visit, Captain A. S. Godfree arrived lor his seventh season's fishing, and Mr D. A. Aitchison, a retired Indian civil servant, is paying his first visit. Lieutenant-General Pitt-Taylor entered the army in 1899. He served in the South African War, in which he won the D.S.O. and was mentioned in dispatches. In the Great War he was mentioned in dispatches nine limes and gained the distinctions of C.M.G. and C.B. He also holds French and Italian orders and decorations for valour. From J923 to 1925 he commanded the 17th Indian Infantry Brigade, and for the next three years he commanded the sth Infantry Brigade, af. Aldershot. Tn 19JS2 lie was appointed to the command of a 3rd Division post, which he held until August this year.
