STAVELEY Mrs A W. Russell presided at the ninthly meeting of the Staveley Women's Institute. Miss B. Cunningham, a delegate, reported on the halfyear v meeting of the South Cantei-b-,rv' Federation. Members having articles of produce for sale were invited to send them to the meetings ot the Ashburton Institute on the fourth Friday of-the month. Arrangements v ere 'made to hold a Christmas party ',',!• children on December 21. Arrangements I were made for a garden party to be I held at "Haeremai" in December. Interesting reports of the half-yearly Federation meeting held at Temuka were given by Mrs R. J. Chapman and Mrs H. Crossman. Miss M. M. Lill. conductor of the local institute choir, was thanked for her services. Mrs B. T. Clothier's resignation as secretary was accepted with regret. and it was decided to place on record the institute's appreciation of her services. Mrs L. Butterick (assistant secretary) was appointed to fill the vacancy. The drama circle was ; granted £1 to form the nucleus of a ' library fund. Members of the drama ■ circle, under the leadership of Mrs S. iH. Lill, presented several amusing charades. The roll call was 'A ! Christmas gift for a man." MOI'NT PLEASANT Tin.- monthly meeting of the Mount Pleasant Women's Institute was held at "Stonycroft." the home of Mrs Arthur Morten (president). It was announced that the December meeting would take the form of a social to be held at "Stonvcrofl," on December 1;>. The roll-call, "The Last Straw." caused much amusement. Mr H. L. Darton, of the Canterbury Horticultural Society, gave an instructive talk on gardens and gardening. Mrs H. G. Edgar thanked Mr Darton, and a vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Morten for her hospitality. A sales table was in charge of Mrs T. G. Hughes. Hostesses were Mesdames Arthur Morten. C. Hart. W. M. Lawry, V. C. Peters, and H. Worrall.
