A MECHANIC'S FAILURE
. « MOTOR-CYCLE AND CAR COLLISION The creditors of Lionel Hubert Logan, a mechanic, of 13 Willow street, Avonside, met yesterday morning, the official assignee (Mr J. H. Robertson) presiding. The bankrupt's financial statement showed debts owing to unsecured creditors at £64 17s 3d: he estimated the value of his furniture at £3O, and the deficiency was £34 17s 3d. To secured creditors there was owing £2O, the securities being valued at the same amount. Mr Robertson said that one unsecured creditor was secured in part and that reduced the amount due to unsecured creditors to £44 17s 3d. Bankrupt in his sworn statement set out that he was married and had three children. At present he was employed as a fitter and turner at £4 8s a week; he obtained this employment in August, 1933. Between 1929 and August, 1933, he had a long period of unemployment. The immediate cause of his insolvency was an accident while he was riding a bor- | rowed motor-cycle. He collided with I a motor-car. The owners of the j vehicles were demanding damages and | he was unable to pay them. Replying to Mr Robertson, the owner j of the damaged motor-cycle said that the repairs would cost about £25 when finished, although he had only claimed for £ls. He would like payment at so much a week, as he had been hit just as hard as bankrupt. The bankrupt, in reply to Mr Robertson, said that he paid 17s Cd a week rent. To the suggestion that he should offer to pay 5s a week towards the reduction of all his debts, he said that he had no surplus from his earnings after making reasonable provision for his family. His wife j had done without new clothes for some time; she was run down in health and needed a holiday. It was decided to let matters stand over for three months to give bankrupt an opportunity to clear up things in his home, so that he might be in a position to make some offer to meet his debts by weekly payments to the official assignee.
