November The death has occurred of Mr ■!f>ll m .Scaddan, C.M.G., first Lnljyiii' I'renncr of Western Australia. I Born at Moonta, South Australia, m 1!>70, and educated at tiio Behdiyo School of Mines, Mr John Scaddan was for some years a miner. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly. Western Australia, by Ivanhoe in 1904. He retained his seat until 1917, and represented Albany from 1919 to 1!)"'. and Maylands from 1930 to 1933. He was chosen leader of the Labour party in 1910, and was Premier and Treasurer from 1911 to 19Hi, when lie left the party because of a difference of opinion on the conscription issue. M.8.E., J.P., a wellknown settler ol' Blenheim, at the aga of 83 years. He was a generous supporter of Methodist Church charities and of the patriotic funds, and was held in the highest esteem throughout the province.
