SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mr and Mrs W. G. Hosken (Simon's 'Hill, Mackenzie Country) and Mr and Mrs R. Murrell (Lake Manapouri) have returned from a trip to Australia. Mr and Mrs Peter Hope and their children (England) arrived yesterday on a visit to Mrs E. Palmer Chapman (Salisbury;. Mrs G. T. Wardell has returned from a visit to Melbourne. Mrs F. M. Ward (Wai-ili road) has returned from a visit to Lake Tekapo. Mrs E. J. Mirams (Beverley road) will leave to-day to visit Mrs Cresswell (Mayfield). Mr and Mrs B. E. 11. Tripp ("Orielton"; are visiting Christchurch. Mrs P. Gresson < Invcrcargill) will arrive to-day to stay with her sister, Mrs K. de Castro (Scaly street). Recent guests at the Grosvenor Hotel include Mr G. Knight (Honolulu), Mr A. H. Oswin (Auckland), Mr E. J. Fuller, Mr J. F. Youngs, Mr H. B. Hanson. Mr C. J. O'Regan (Wellington), Mr R. King, Mr W. G. Morrison, Mr O. Johnston, Mr J. A. Philp, Mr E. A. Jones, Mr C. Robinson, Mr L. Armstrong, Mr and Mrs W. H. Prcscott (Christchurch), Mr A. Haig, Mr C. A. Algar (Dunedin), Mr J. Robbie, Mr A. L. Walker, Mr S. J. Officer (Invcrcargill). SMOKE CONCERT On Tuesday evening the men of the D.I.C. staff held an enjoyable smoke concert in the Savoy Tea-Room, in honour of the approaching marriage of a popular young member of the staff, Mr F. Wayman. Mr Bell, as chairman, and Messrs Hazard and MacPherson, as stewards, had made excellent arrangements for the entertainment of the guests. Mr Smart was pianist, and items given by staff members were greatly enjoyed. Mr Wayman thanked the staff for the kindly thought which had prompted the gathering.
