Sheffield gave a report on the half-yearly meeting of the North Canterbury Federation, which was held in Christchurch. The competition for the best frock made and worn, and not costing more than ss, was won by Mrs J. Collard, with Miss Barber second. A very interesting demonstration on cake icing was given by Mrs A. Williamson, Gore Bay. It was decided to give the children of the district a Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. Mrs E. D. Milne was in charge of the sales tables. The hostesses were Mesdames Thomas and Downs. The hostesses for the next monthly meeting, which is to be held in the Parnassus Hall, are Mesdames Angus and Lcaman and Miss Barber. SHERWOOD DOWNS Mrs Alister Mackenzie presided at the monthly meeting of the Sherwood Downs Women's Institute. Visitors from Fairlie Institute were welcomed, also Mrs E. Williams and her little son. Prize-winners at the recent Timaru and Wairnate shows were congratulated. An invitation was received from the Mount Nessing Institute to be present at its meeting on Wednesday, November 21, when Miss Spencer will give an address. Mrs A. P. Bray find Miss C. Macdonald agreed to care for the plot at the Aslnvick Flat monument. Discussion resulted in the hostess system for afternoon teas being retained. A travel talk will be given by Miss Riddle in the school on November 23. It was decided that a district picnic be held at Mr? Carter's. Te Puni. on December 15, toys to be provided as usual for the children. Miss A. Scott was accorded a vote of thanks l'or her interesting report of the recent federation meeting at Temuka.
