GREYMOUTH minim; examinations (SI'EUAL TO THE I'RISS.) GREYMOUTH. November 22. The annual mining examinations were held at Greymouth yesterday under the supervision of Mr C. J. Strongman (Inspector of Mines) and Mr J. A. James (State Mines Superintendent). There were 14 candidates for deputies' certificates and six for the underviewers' certificate;:. Karoro Sports Club At the annual meeting of the Karoro Sports Club the election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr H. D James; president, Mr J. Bowls Five rinks from the Runanaa and Greymouth Bowling Clubs played a Reynolds Badge game at the Runanga green under ideal conditions. REEFTON FIRE BRIGADE PARTY (31'lrlAL TO TB» »RBSS.) REEFTON, November 22. A very pleasant social evening was spent at the lire station, when the members of the Reefton Fire Brigade entertained Ihe Ladies' Ball Committee. During the evening a euchre tournament was held, the prizes being won by Mrs L. Loekington and Mrs Stallard. Captain Coxall, in thanking the ladies for their valuable help at the ball, presented Mrs J. Eager with a set of ear vers, as a token of appreciation of her services. Dancing was enjoyed to music played by Mr J. Crowley and Mrs Shields. Novelty dances were won by Mrs Coxall and partner, Mrs Falls and partner, and Mrs Eager and partner. Education Hoard At the monthly meeting of the Nelson Education Board, a grant of £5 15s was made to the Reefton School Committee, for the erection of a new gate. Miss B. K. Restall was appointed assistant mistress at Ikamatua. Cricket The fixtures for this week's cricket are: Waratahs v. Ikamatua. at Ikamatua; Waiuta v. Nelson Creek, at Nelson Creek; Reefton a bye.
