Study of energy consumed by persons doing physical and mental work has failed to explain why brain workers feel so very tired after prolonged mental effort, according to "Popular Science." It was recently found, however, that, in spite of the fatigue in both mind and body after intellectual activity, brain work seems to have little effect on the general level of vital activity. Dr. Frank G. Benedict, of the nutrition laboratory of the Carnegie Institution, who made the tests, found that, contrary to popular belief, brain workers do not need fish or other phosphorus-rich food any more than other workers. In fact, the only extra energy needed for an hour of intense mental effort is contained in half a peanut or oneeighth of an ounce of the edible part of a banana. A housewife sweeping and dusting would expend as much energy in three minutes, it was found, as a man would expend in excess of his basic needs during an hour of intensive brain work. So, slowly is domestic work gaining in prestige. ~&-)(J$k(4 Care for your skin daily with Catleara Soap.
