WATER IN DEMAND

j GARDENS THIRSTY Though November is not usually a month in which heavy demands are made on the water supply of the city, the hot weather experienced in the month this year has resulted in comparatively high consumption. On no day from November 5 to 15 last year did the demand reach 4,000,000 gallons, but on six days this year, between the same dates, the consumption has exceeded that amount. On Saturday, November 10, this year, it amounted to 4,851,900 gallons, and the following day it was 4,363,600 gallons. The table which follows, gives the comparative figures for the period last year, and this year:—

1933. 1934. Date. Gallons. Gallons. Nov. 5 .. 3,195,800 4,059,500 Nov. 6 .. 3,270,400 3,661,000 Nov. 7 .. 3,448,500 3,788,400 Nov. 8 .. 3,512,100 4,250.600 Nov. 9 .. 3,450,500 3.942,000 Nov. 10 .. 3,280,900 4,851,900 Nov. 11 .. 3,984,500 4,363,600 Nov. 12 .. 3,407,500 4,728,000 Nov. 13 .. 3,812,600 3,504,500 Nov. 14 .. 3,777,000 3,679,500 Nov. 15 .. 3,726,700 4,111,200

Probably the consumption yesterday would reach 5,000,000 The highest amount consumed in one day was recorded two years ago, when the quantity was 6,250,000 gallons. More than 10,000,000 gallons a day can be supplied from the Cashmere reservoir, and the Sydenham and St. Albans sub-stations. Jn addition, the three wells in the Woolston yard can provide 50,000 gallons an hour, and the May's road wells can deliver also 50,000 gallons an hour.
