GOLF

TIMARU CLUB The Timaru Golf Club closed its season on Saturday afternoon, when a mixed foursome handicap was played, Mrs Fair ana Fair and Mrs Johnston and Johnston returning the best cards, one up, necessitating a play-off to decide the holder of the trophy. When play was concluded, the president (Mr W. H. Walton) welcomed the visitors and reviewed the past season, stating that the weather had been as bad as most members could remember, in consequence of which the links had had to be closed mora frequently than for some years past. It did not appear, however, as though play had deteriorated to any great extent. The several occasions on which the links had been under water had shown the committee where work was necessary to avoid such a recurrence and arrangements had been entered into for the loan of the St. Clair Club's mole drain plough, which would be used to make deep drains. The course was now in excellent order and an attempt would be made to keep it open during the summer months. It had been suggested that the British team of golfers should visit Timaru, but up to the present no official intimation had been received of the visit. The troohies won during the season were presented by the president of the ladies' club (Mrs D. O'Callaghan), as follows:
