THE WEATHER Warm, sunny day? were experienced in the city over the week-end. Yesterday, the nor'-west wind freshened considerably. The maximum temperature recorded for the last two days was more than 74 degrees, although on Saturday morning early it dropped to within .8 degree of freezing point. In Otber Centres Auckland—The prolonged spell of fine north-east weather continued dur- i ing the week-end, conditions being the I hottest experienced this summer. The ; thermometer registered 78 degrees in the shade. The barometer has been steady at 30.00 inches since Saturday afternoon.
Wellington—On Saturday the weather for the most part was fine and warm, but during the latter half of the morning it clouded over temporarily, and a little light rain fell. About midday a moderate northerly wind prevailed. The maximum temperature was 65.0 degrees, and the minimum 53.5 degrees. Yesterday, although cloudy at times, was warm and pleasant, with a moderate north-westerly breeze.
Dunedin—Perfect summer weather was again experienced in Dunedin on Saturday, 14J hours of continuous sunshine being recorded. The thermometer registered 58 degrees at 8 a.m., while the maximum for the day was 74 degrees. Warm conditions continued yesterday. The sky was cloudy and a slight easterly wind was blowing. Later the sky became threatening, and the barometer showed a falling tendency. The maximum temperature for the day was 76.5 degrees. FORECAST (From readings taken at 4 p.m.) General Situation—Pressure remained high to the eastward. A depression has been advancing very slowly across the Tasman Sea and is losing intensity. Winds—Northerly north of New Plymouth and Napier, elsewhere northwesterly to westerly, backing to southerly generally within the next 24 hours: moderate mainly, but strong in a few exposed positions. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rather rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Northerly winds at first in the northern portion, otherwise moderate to fresh southwesterly to southerly prevailing; seas moderate to rather rough. Weather—Mainly cloudy to overcast, with scattered rain in most districts; becoming cooler.
