CANTERBURY association MAN AG E.MEN T CO MM ITT EE MEETS The management committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association met "ast evening. There wc-re present:— Mo-qrs W. L. Kins (chairman), G. S. a Billcliff, W. K. Winsor, E. E. Lutfvflll M. c. Ward. R. C. Burns, G. H. r?nbertson, J. L. Kerr, S. L. Wright, C H. Ayling, F. A. Jarrett, and C. S. ThornP son -, . . ... The Wellington Association sug-•-fitert Munday to Thursday, Dccem"m- 31 to January 3, as the dates for , J ne plunket Shield mutch against Canterbury. a t Lancaster Park. This, ihe letter stated, would save a day's >xoen c es i n Christchurch. as the team Hvoulcf have to leave Wellington on ff ne Saturday night. ,j r Burns was appointed the association's direct representative at the meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council to-morrow. i The Lancaster Park Board of Con- . j advised that the use of the Lancaster Park oval had been granted to ♦y Canterbury Women's Cricket Association for its match against the louring English women's team on Wednesday. February C, or Thursday. February 7. to the New Zealand Women's Cricket Council for a match against the same team on Saturday, February 16, and Monday. February 13. The dates were approved. Mr Burns said that there appeared to be some confusion about the law relating to the closing of an innings on the°first day. Last year the association decided that declarations should be allowed on the first day up to within an hour of the time for drawing stumps, instead of an hour ? nd 40 minutes as formerly. Clubs Vv -ere doubtful as to which rule applied this season. The chairman ruled that the alteration to the rule effected last year was itill in force. * A complaint by the selector fMr tib Whitta) that senior players of clubs' were not coaching the juniors was referred to Mr Burns. On the motion of Mr Wright, it was decided to call a conference of captains vice-captains, and the association's coaching committee for next Tuesday, at 8 p.m., at the offices of Mr Ayling reported, on behalf of the competitions committee that the Riccartcn Club had withdrawn its j team from the fifth grade competition , and that the Old Boys' Club had en- i tered an extra team in the grade. OPINIONS WANTED PROPOSED SUB-ASSOCIATIONS' COMPETITION The proposal of the West Coast Cricket Association that the Canterbury Cricket Association should establish a competition among its sub-as-sociations on the lines of the Hawke Cup competition will be referred to the various sub-associations for expressions of opinion, according to a decision of the management committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association last evening. The suggestion was that minor associations and sub-associations should be grouped for such a competition as follows:—South Canterbury and Ashburton; Ellesmere and Malvern; Amurj and North Canterbury; Greymouth and Hokitika or Westport. The winners of each group should be entitled to challenge for the trophy. Challengers would have to meet their own ex- ■ penses, and expenses incurred by the Canterbury Association could be met by'fixing an affiliation fee. "They have left out one of our most important sub-associations, the Christchurch Suburban Association," remarked Mr W. H. Winsor. He said it was a big question and could not be undertaken this year because the dates for matches in the present sub-asso-ciations' competition had been fixed. The proposal could be submitted to the sub-associations at the annual conference and tried next year if thought advisable. On Mr C. S. Thompson's suggestion it was decided to send a copy of the letter to the associations mentioned and to ask for their opinions. SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION Mr E. King presided at the monthly meeting of delegates to the Suburban .Cricket Association held last evening, when there was a large attendance. Mr D. A. Donaldson was accepted as a third delegate for the Northcote Club, whicii had increased its membership.

, The Amuri Association wrote accepting November 21 and 22 for the subassociation shield match, and stating that the match would be played at Waiau.

The Canterbury Cricket Association advised that T. Waine and N. Stokes had been selected for inclusion in the colts team in a match to be played on Show Day. The Umpires' Association complained th'at some players were in the nabit of adversely criticising the decisions of the umpires at the various watches, and it was decided to ask Delegates to place the matter before 'neir club members. It was decided to instruct the committee to secure badges for the use oi umpires officiating at the association s matches. The Stewart's Gully Club offered to sive a trophy, to be awarded in any way the association deemed desirable. •!ne offer was accepted with thanks. A suggestion that the fielding side rfPPiy the ball in all competition matches was not agreed to, 'and it «as agreed that the home team inu.-t Provide the ball in all games.
