CHIEF POSTMASTER AT AUCKLAND
* MR J. P. P. CLOUSTON'S NEW APPOINTMENT LTHE PRESS Special Service.] DUNEDIN, October 15. Advice has been received by the chief postmaster at Dunedin (Mr J. P. p. Clouston) that he has been appointed chief postmaster at Auckland to fill the vacancy created by the death of Mr S. M. Harrison. Mr Clouston, who was born in the Orkney Islands in 1881, and who came to New Zealand 41 years ago, joined the Post and Telegraph Department at Auckland in 1897, and four years later was transferred to the secretary's office at Wellington. He remained in Wellington until 1912, when he was moved to the Christchurch chief post office stall, returning to Auckland as second clerk in 1916. He was superintendent of the clerical branch at Hamilton in 1920, and the next year was promoted to the post of postmaster at Devonport. In 1925 Mr Clouston was postmaster at Rotorua, and a year later he was appointed superintendent of the staff division at the General Post Office, Wellington, a position which he held . until his promotion to chief postmaster at Dunedin in 1931. Mr Clouston served with the New Zealand Forces in the South African campaign, and during his tenure of the position of chief postmaster at Dunedin •he was the department's official representative on the council of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce. He will be replaced in Dunedin by Mr J. Madden, who is at present chief postmaster at Wanganui.
