"MISERERE" DUET

THE T. A. HARVEY RECITAL 1 The "Miserere" duet, from "II Tro- ; vatore" (Verdi), will be among the : vocal works to be performed by Mr : and Mrs T. A. Harvey in their first recital in New Zealand, at the Jellicoe ; Hall to-morrow night. In this case this fine duet is arranged for contralto and baritone, and Mr Harvey (tenorJ takes the baritone part, with Mrs Hai- , vey as contralto. It was recently sung in Christchurch by M. Senia Chostiakoff and Madame Elsa Stralia, the Australian prima donna. Mr Harvey has a vocal quality declared to be equal to that of any tenor in Australia or New Zealand. Pianissimo notes, which so few singers can master fully, are one of his specialties, and In this regard a likeness to John McCormack's singing has been drawn. . As a contralto Mrs Harvey, who as : Miss Hazel Batchelor was prominent ■ in oratorio work in Dunedin some seven years ago, has been highly praised by those musical authorities

9 who have had an opportunity of hearing her recently. Both husband and wife sing with an ease which indicates that the secret of voice production and control has been thoroughly mastered. This talented couple, who will have Mr Noel Newson as their accompanist for to-morrow evening's recital, have recently come to reside permanently in Christchurch, where they have been very kindly received by musical circles. Largely in appreciation of this welcome the recital is being staged. Variety to the programme, which will include several well-known operatic arias, will be lent by a trio consisting of Misses Dora Deal (violin), Marjorie Chapman (violoncello), and Bessie Pollard (pianoforte). Tickets, of which a limited number are available to the public, may be obtained at Messrs Begg and Company's rooms.
