WAIMAIRI BEACH PROGRESS LEAGUE

ANNUAL MEETING Mr A. Florence presided over the first annual meeting of the Waimairl Beach Progress League, held last evening. There was a large attendance, including Crs. W. P. Spencer and ( W. J. Walter, members of the Waimairi County Council. The question of widening Beach road at the Britannia street cutting was discussed, and it was . decided that Crs. W. J. Walter and W. P. Spencer meet representatives of the association on the ground to consider the proposal. j Annual Report The annual report presented stated that the league during its first year had been very active and had secured many improvements for the district, including the erection of sevei-al street lights, improvements to the roads and footpaths, and the seeming of a postal delivery to Sylvia and Badger streets. A most important feature of the year"s work was the formation of the Waimari Beach picnic ground. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of 21s 6d. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. It was decided to write to the Waimairi County Council supporting th« proposal for the fixation of the sand, and forming of a road between Beach and Hevders roads as a .suitable won: for the" unemployed and a benefit to the general public. The election of officers resulte-a: -

President, Mr A. Fioratice: vice-presi-dents, Messrs T. Taylor. P. E. L. Broad. T Bond S. Aston: secretary. Air ;>. Betts: treasurer. Mr G. Biggs: auditor, Mr J. A. Wilson: trustees. Messrs A. Florance and G. Biggs. Messrs W. P. Spencer, W. J. Walter, and J. Liggins were elected life members. A vote of thanks was recorded "The Press" for its good report of the association's meetings during the year. The question of the North Beach reading loan was brought forward. After a lengthy discussion on the question of securing some redress from the high rates, it was decided to appoint a sub-committee to go fully into ! the matter with the object of making representations to the Government to secure some relief. The sub-committee elected was: Messrs A. Florance, P. E, L. Broad and D. Good, and Crs. W. P Spencer, J. Liggins, and W. J. Walter.
