SCOUT NOTES
+ [ISSUED FROM METROPOLITAN HEADQUARTZES.] The Chief Commissioner The health of the Chief Commissioner has given us some anxiety lately. He had a slight relapse last week and had to submit to a further operation. He is now, however, out of hospital, and in his home, and hopes to be completely recovered shortly. Census Several districts have not yet sent in their census papers. The districts who have failed to do so are as follows: —Merivale, Papanui, Riccarton, Rugby street. St. Matthew's, Toe H (No. 1 District), No. 2 District, Cambridge terrace, New Brighton, No. 3 District, Cashmere, Lyttelton, Celtic, No. 4 District, Leyden street, St. Mark's Opawa, Marist Brothers; No. 5 District, Akaroa, and Little River. Full returns have been received from No. 6 and No. 7 Districts. Returns should be sent in without delay. Training Notes The final meeting of scouters who attended the training course was held on Wednesday evening last. A large number attended, and a lively discussion took place on the merits of the recent course, and some good ideas for future courses were brought forward. A week-end camp is to be held on November 17 and 18, and all tcouters are asked to be present, as it will provide new camping ideas and also help the social life of the scouters of Christohurch. The earner's badge course will commence next Wednesday at 7.30 p.m. in Metropolitan Headquarters, at 67 Worcester street. Scouters should provide themselves with pencils and note books. It is hoped that a large number of scouters will attend this class, as it is most important that those in charge of scout camps should have a full knowledge of camp management. These classes will give an opportunity to do so. If scouters do not take this advantage of this course they cannot blame headquarters if permission to take charge of a camp is not granted on account of their not having the camper's badge. If you will look up the P.O.R. on the subject you will see that a very full knowledge of camping is required before anyone can qualify for a camper's badge. Now is the time for scout committees to be thinking about camp. Do not put it off until December and apply for permission at the last moment. It is better that .too much notice should be given; but you should all "Be Prepared" with your tents and equipment ready and have all your plans made out months beforehand. We hope this year to make the camps a feature of scouting in Canterbury, and to raise the standard to as high a pitch as possible.
