DISEASED DOGS AT SHOWS
TO TUB EDITOR Or THE PBBSS. Sir,—A letter in "The Press" to-day signed by F. R. Wheeley gives the impression that my only objection to his first letter was the fact that he compared dog show authorities with the Christchurch dog poisoner. In a long interview with Mr Wheeley last Friday, I was very careful to impress on him that I strongly objected to all his statements. I suggested that in his own interests he should publicly retract his reference to the clog poisoner. I was astonished to learn from Mr Wheeley that he was the person who brought the dog that he alleges was suffering .from distemper to the show at 9 a.m., and that he did not report the matter until 6 p.m. He still thinks this dog had distemper, and considers his dogs caught it from this source, and he cannot see that he is to blame. Many experienced exhibitors have congratulated the South Canterbury Kennel Club on the splendid organisation and strict supervision displayed at their show, and Mr Wheeley has been the only one to complain. I agree with him that the newspaper correspondence should be discontinued. It should never have commenced. —Yours, etc., F. G. SAVILLE. Fairlie, October 8, 1934. [Mr Wheeley, to whom this letter was referred, said: "The letter* is misleading, and contrary to fact. The person who took this dog out of its box and into the show reported at once to the person in charge of the dog. I was not that person. Mr Saville says he suggested that I should retract my reference to the dog poisoner. I offered to do this, as he appeared so hurt about it. He did not suggest It-** 1 TUAHIWI SOCIAL TO TUB EUITOU OF TUB PRESS. Sir, —Through your paper I would like to thank those who assisted us in making a success of the Tuahiwi social held at Northcote Hall on October 4, including Mr Eddie Hegan and his pupils, Mrs C. I should also like to thank those ladies who assisted me with supper arrangements and decorating the hall and who gave donations towards the supper, and Mr Manhire for the bus arrangements. I wish Mr Hegan kia ora on his voyage to America. —Yours, etc., MRS ARTHUR PAHI, Organiser. October 10, 1934.
