PERSONAL It is reported from London that Captain R. B. Irving, at present master ol the Aquitania, will be the first commander of the Cunard-White Star liner Queen Mary, launched on September 26. Captain Irving has been a Cunard captain since 1905. SHIPPING CASUALTIES /Ho ooo wo vessels > vi ' « Ki'oss tonnage ot 48,288, were involved in shipping casualties in New Zealand waters during the year ended March 31 last. Twenty-four ships were stranded (three being total losses), two were afire, 11 were in collisions, and the remaining 15 were involved in miscellaneous casualties, including damage by heavy seas to hull and cargo, and mechanical breakdown. No lives were lost.
