PROTECTION OF NATIONAL PARKS
MOUNTAIN CLUBS URGE GOVERNMENT ACTION (PRESS ASSOCIVTIOK TELEUBAM.) WELLINGTON, October 8. After considering a special report on the destruction of timber in the Mount Egmont Reserve, the Dominion Executive of the Federation of Mountain Clubs of New Zealand passed a resolution urging the Government to give national parks and reserves the fullest protection possible, and to take steps to prevent further destruction in Egmont National Park. As it seemed that the true position c-ould be ascertained onlv by a public investigation, the executive urged that such an enquiry be held without delay. The president of the federation, Mr A. P. Harper, said it was evident that some forests within the Egmont National Park were being cut into by contractors in a way that would destroy much valuable timber.
