EXCURSION TO HOMEBUSH
; A special mystery tramping excuri sion promoted by the Railway DepartI merit was held in the Homebush disI trict yesterday. It was the twentyI first mystery hike, and the occasion was made one for a special celebration. 1 A cake weighing a hundredweight was ! cut and distributed at the Homebush i Estate. There were 14 cars attached ' to the train, carrying 460 excursionists. Competitions, including beauty races, were held at Homebush. The venue of the tramp was over the estates of Messrs James Deans and William Douglas, in the Sheffield and Homebush districts. The trampers detrained at Sheffield and proceeded over good tramping country to the Auchen* flower road. Lunch was taken at this point, and after community singing trampers proceeded to Homebush through the well-known plantations established by Mr John Deans. Afternoon tea was taken at the home of Mr I James Deans at Homebush, where the return train was boarded for Christchurch,
