Mrs Kennedy (62-8-70) was the winner of the ladies' trophy. Tennis The Takahanga Tennis Club opened its season on Saturday afternoon when there was a large attendance of players. Mr J. A. Johnston (president) performed the opening ceremony. Miniature Rifle Shooting On Saturday evening the Kaikoura Miniature Rifle Club members enter-1 tained visitors from Sumner and j Waiau. Sumner 992 points defeated j Kaikoura A team 977. Kaikoura B learn defeated Waiau by 555 to 540. A triangular contest ilO shot) wa; : held later, the result, being Sumner •136, Waiau 475, and Kaikoura 475. A cup presented by the Sumner Club for local competition was awarded for the best score off the rifle. This was won by G. McKenzie, who, with his score of 70, wins also Mr C. Clark's trophy for the first possible scored on the club's range. Mr J. A. Johnston, president of the Kaikoura Club, welcomed the visitors, and his remarks were replied to by Mr C. Cricket The Kaikoura Cricket Club's season was formally opened on Saturday afternoon and a match was played between teams selected by the captain (Mr F. Warner) and the vice-captain 'Mr J. A. Reid). The first ball was bowled by Mr Eric Flower. The match resulted in a win for the captain's team with a score of 134 R. Grant 21, Gillett 35 (not out), Warner 24 (not out), Lambourne 13. The vice-captain's team scored 116 —Kilian 35 (not out), S. O'Callaghan 10, P. Macfarlane 22, W. McLennan 21. Bowling for the captain's team: Grant, three for 36.
