CHRIST'S COLLEGE SPORTS
♦ GOOD EVEN STANDARD OF PERFORMANCES CLOSE COMPETITION FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIPS The cold atmosphere and the heaviness of the track had a great effect on the times during the second day of the Christ's College sports on Saturday. There were accordingly no outstanding performances, and no record was broken, but the standard throughout the day was good and very even. Best performances included a junior quarter mile in 50 3-ssec. the open 120 yards hurdles hi 1(5 l-osec, and a shot putl of 03ft 9Mu. The senior championship was won by K. S. Jameson, a determined sprinter and a fine hurdler. He finished the day with 13 point.-, score;! with -wms in the 100 yards. 120 yards hurdles, and long jump. The runner-up was T. D.
J. Holderness. who v. on the two longer distance events, the "naif-mile i.iul mile. He scored 10 points. J. M. Hansen won the junior championship easily with 1" points, taking places in all of six events. He was first in the steeplechase, run before She spoils, in the long and high jumps, and the 100 yards, and second in the quarter-mile and mile. The runner-up was --H. T. Thompson (12 points), who beat Hansen in the two longer track events, and was second to him in the 100 yards. The house championship was won by Julius House, with -18 points. Unfavourable Conditions The track had been heavy on the previous, day for the opening events, and rain during the night had made it worse. The atmosphere was bitterly cold, and last times wore practically out of the question. The day began with flic house relay, which was remarkable for a fine sprint by A. A. McMaster, In put Harper House within a foot of Julius House at the i'mish. hater R. K. Alexander put the shot :mi n:in. He had been expected to go! very near to the record, but an injury he suffered in Ihe cricket ball ccent on the previous day affected his performance. W. Raymond, a determined runner, made good time in the quarter-mile under 10. He won easily in 58 l-ssee, the same time as that which won the quarter under 17. and lie covered the mile later in smin 9sce. He is one of the most promising runners at the college. The quarter-mile open, which followed, provided an interesting race, which was won b? R. 11. Livingstone in a close finish. K. S. Jameson led at a fairly fast pace down the back straight, but he was '•swamped" on the final bend, and Livingstone, Webb, and Holderness went away to fight out a good finish.. Livingstone came home with only two feet to spare, and there was only half this distance between Ihe second man. Webb, and Holdernes.,
