POTATO PIE DINNER
♦ LANCASHIRE AND YORKSHIRE SOCIETY The Lancashire and Yorkshire Society of Christchurch held a successful potato pie dinner in Dixieland on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance of members of the society and friends. The president, Mr S. Cheetham, outlined the object of the evening. He stated that six years ago the Lancashire Society had been formed, and had proved a great success. At the last annual meeting, it had been proposed that the society should invite Yorkshire people to join with it, and change the name to the Lancashire and Yorkshire Society. Arrangements for this amalgamation had been completed and the function had been organised to celebrate the inception of the new society He said that the dish of potato pie had been chosen for the dinner because of its popularity with the people of Lancashire. In a brief speech the past president Mr T. Mason, thanked members for 'attending in such large numbers and said that the dinner would be the spinning of an annual celebration. After dinner there was dancing, for <which music was supplied by Fowler s Orchestra. During the evening songs were given by Mr T. Richards, and Misses Turn-j Cull and Billie Addis gave tap dances. |
