BANKS PENINSULA POWER BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Banks Peninsula Electric Power Board was held at Little River. Present: Messrs C. E. Kay (chairman), J. V. Chapman, A. M. Helps, and R. O. Bradley. The chairman referred to the loss the district had sustained in the death of .Mr Thomas Thompson, of Little River, who had devoted much time to the service of public bodies on the Peninsula. Members stood as a mark of respect, and instructions were given to express the board's sympathy to his relatives. The chairman reported having attended the recent power board conference in Wellington, which he had found very interesting and instructive. The conference had been very largely attended, and he thought the dominant idea in the minds of most of the representatives had been the necessity cf increasing the distribution side of the electrical industry by the sale of more power. Two hire purchase agreements for milking and cooking installations were approved by the board. It was reported that the board's rates for cooking and water heating compared very favourably with any other methods available. It was resolved to circularise consumers with each quarter's accounts and to canvass parts of the district in an endeavour to secure the consumption of more power. The engineer reported that during the month the binding wires on the main line between Motukarara and Birdling's Flat had been replaced. Service lines had been extended to two dairies, and the replacement of poles in the 33 k.v. line had been commenced. The broadcasting station at Gebbic's Pass would require more power next March, and instructions wore given to order the necessary equipment. The additional connected load for the month totalled 27 k.w. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £437 in the board's loan account and a credit of £1972 in the power fund account. Accounts totalling £2406 were passed for payIn en 1.
