CONTRACT FOR NEW HANGAR
♦ DEVELOPMENT OF WIGRAM AERODROME Tenders will close next Tuesday for the erection of a large new aeroplane hangar at Wigram Aerodrome. The hangar will cost approximately £20,000 and will be the largest yet erected in New Zealand. The Public Works Department has already received a number of estimates for the work. A start will probably be made with the contract before the end of this month. Work will be provided for six months for between 40 and 50 men The new hangar has been planned to provide every modern device for the handling and storing of aeroplanes Ihe building will cover an area of 180 ft by 90ft, and will have electrically operated doors. Plans have also been prepared for new buildings to provide home accommodation ofnces, and worksheds for the increased personnel to be stationed at Wi«ram Tenders will be called in due course for this work. ley and Godfrey, now on West Also questioned him in House this morning with same result." Mr Leaver explained that unless further advice is received the council will be in a quandary as to whether it will be able to start men working on Monday whose names have been included in the list ordering their transfer to Ashley camp. The men who have stated that they cannot agree to being transferred to the camu owing to family reasons—and this includes the bulk of the 100— have been asked to procure a medical certificate stating that either they or their families would be harshly treated by compliance.
