The expedition's autogiro crashed and was wrecked yesterday when landing after an atmospheric sounding flight. The pilot, Mr William McCormick, suffered a broken left arm and body bruises, but his condition is not serious. When clouds blew up suddenly the pilot decided to shorten his fpght. Fortunately men were working nearby, and he was rushed to camp on a sledge. Admiral Byrd, when informed of the accident, sent a radio message to Mr McCormick, ''Don't let the crash worry you. The only thing that counts is your safety. 1 am very sorry you broke your arm. I hope it is' not too painful and will mend soon."
