The expedition's autogiro crashed and was wrecked yesterday when landing after an atmospheric sounding flight. The pilot, Mr William McCormick, suffered a broken left arm and body bruises, but his condition is not serious. When clouds blew up suddenly the pilot decided to shorten his fpght. He made a nice landing, but after running a few feet the machine tripped over u ridge and turned over. The rotor collapsed pinning down Mr McConnJck's arm. Fortunately men were working nearby, and he was rushed to camp on a sledge. Admiral Byrd, when informed of the accident, sent a radio message to Mr McCormick, ''Don't let the crash worry you. The only thing that counts is your safety. 1 am very sorry you broke your arm. I hope it is' not too painful and will mend soon."
