A SPLENDID DISPLAY There -was an excellent display at the annual Bpring flower show of tho Sydenham Methodist Church, whi-h was opened by tho Uov. Clarenco Eaton, president of the Methodist Conference, yesterday afternoon. Mr Eaton said thore was nothing more appropriate for tho church to undcrtnko than a flower show. DISPLAY AT PAPANUI Tho third annual rpring flower »liow held by St. Giles' Presbyterian Church una opened yesterday afternoon by the president (Mr- M. E. Lyons). The entries numbered more than 800. being equal to the number staged last year. Nearly 200 were present at tllo opening. Mr Lyons congratulated Hie committee- on its splendid work, and spoke of the groat influence of horticulture. Mr O. W. B. Anderson, the patron, and also nn exhibitor of daffodils, Baid the display of blooms was of exceptionally high merit. Other speakers wero Mr L. IS. Hart, president of the Canterbury Jlortieultur.il .Society, Mr L. Darton, and the Kev. \\. U. Orboll. The opening ceremony concluded with the presentation of bouquets to Mr 3 M. E. Lyons and Mrs O. W. 13. Anderson by Pcffgy Borgfeldt and Alison Kennedy. Tho champ : onship award in the amateur or novice daffodil classes was won by Mrs E. Gerard with a vase of three Incompariihilis. Tho premier trumpet daffodil was a seedling grown by Mr O. W. B. Anderson. Tlie award for the premier daffodil was wou by Mr G. Lewis with a speeimon of Kiligrew. The show will he continued this afternoon and evening, when items will be given by juveniles of the Scottish Society and a gymnastic display by boys from tho Presbyterian Home. METHODIST CHURCH, SPRINGSTON A LARGE ENTRY A flower show under the auspices of the Springston Methodist Chnrrh was held in the Public Hall. Tho quality of the blooms and the number of entries -were greatly in advance of past shows. The distinction of exhibiting the chnmpion bloom fell to Mr T. Memory, while tho district championship for a collection of 12 varieties of narcissi was won by the Rev. C. 11. Kendon. Mr P. Jones, of Christchurch, exhibited a collection of narcissi and daffodils. Tho judges were: —Narcissi, cut flowers, and vegetables, Mr F. Jones (Christchurch) ; decorative, cookery, and fancy work Mrs W B. Cunningham and Miss Candy, of Brookside. Tho commitleo in charge of the show was headed by Mr Kendon as chairman. Mrs T. Memory as secretary, and Miss M. Mounce assistant. The show was declared open by the Rev F. B. Lawrence, of Leeston. During the evening Mr C. Mills, of Lincoln, gave two humorous recitations. Competition winners were as follows: — Shooting, E. J. Harris; women's quoits, Miss M. Mounce; men's quoits, T. Tlio annual flower show held in the Ohoka ITall waß an outstanding Kiu:ces?. The entries were a record, und tho financial resuits liio )>est yet achieved. A committee under the Rev. W. J. Knticott worked well. 'llia show was officially opened by Mr R. W. Hawko, M.P. In the evening Mr linlph Hmith entertained with an excellent programme of pictures, while members of tin committee- carried out u programme of competitions. Tlio premier bloom of the show was exhibited by Mr D. 11. Law, and be also exhibited the premier trumpet narcissi. Mr R. T.
