Lincoln, was a passenger to the north last night. Canon S. Parr and Deaconess H Park have been appointed as examiners in religious knowledge fo: the Anglican Church Primary Day Schools for the current year. Members of Parliament who returned to Wellington by the Maori last night; were Messrs A. S. Richards (Roskill), E. J. Howard, J. Connolly, R. W. Hawke. and H. S. S. Kyle. Mr V. R. Meredith, one of tin" selectors of the North Island Rugby Football team, returned to the north last night after witnessing the interisland match in Dunedin on Saturday. Mr G. D. Healj'. superintendent for Australia and New Zealand of the Bank of Australasia, arrived m Auckland yesterday by the Aorangi. and will spend a short time in New Zealand. Mr R. McGiliivrav. fields superintendent of the Department ot Agriculture in Christchurch. left last evening for Palmerston North. where "he will attend a grassland conference of field superintendents of the department. He expects to be back by the end of the week. The Bishop-designate of Nelson, Canon W. G. Hilliafd. hopes to enter into residence at Bishopsdale about the middle of October. His consecration will take place in Nelson on October 28. The preacher will be Archbishop Mowll. Mr A. M. Fairbairn, private secretary to the Hon. J. W. FordhamJohnson, Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia, arrived at Auckland by the Aorangi yesterday on a long holiday visit to the Dominion. He was accompanied by Mrs Fairbairn.
Mr J. H. Luxford, who for th;> last five .years has been chief judge of the High Court of Western Samoa, arrived in Lyttelton from Apia by the Maui Pomare yesterday morning. In future the administration of justice will be by a magistrate visiting the territory on circuit. Mr A. C. Davidson, general manager of the Bank of New South. Wales, is a through passenger by the Aorangi to Sydney, after a seven months' tour of Canada, Britain, and eight Continental countries. The Aorangi reached Auckland yesterday. Dr. G. Home, of New Plymouth, arrived at Lyttelton from Apia by the Maui Pomare yesterday. Dr. Home arrived at Apia by the Marama on a holiday visit but accepted, at short notice, a relieving appointment in surgical charge of the Apia Hospital. During his six weeks a' the hospital. Dr. Home had experience with tropical diseases which are unknown in New Zealand. The hospital is staffed with New Zealand trained nurses, with both male and female native cadets assisting.
Dr. T. A. Mac Gibbon. who will be accompanied by Mrs MacGibbu;.. will leave Christchurch next weel. for a tour of five months of Groa' Britain and the Continent. Th-;/ will join the lainui at Auckland. Dr. Mac Gibbon intends to spc-ivi some months on the Continent visiting famous clinics and studying tho latest developments in his ow.i branch of medical work. Di\ a-'i Mrs Mac Gibbon also hope to spend some time with their two sons. wh<> are both in Scotland. Captain Donald P. Simson. general secretary of the Empire Service League, arrived by the Aorangi at Auckland yesterday on his way to attend a conference of the league in Melbourne with Sir lan Fraser. M.P., head of the British delegation, who was a passenger by the same vessel. Captain Simson is a New Zealander by birth, and served with the New Zealand forces in the South African War and the Great War.
