—♦ INCREASED RETURNS FOR MONTH REPORT TO BOARD Increases in the tonnage handled and in t!ie receipts from the port of Lyttelton during September when compared with the corresponding month last year were revealed in the statement submitted by the treasurer to the meeting of the Harbour Board yesterday. Tonnage increased by 6500 tons, and receipts by £I6OO. The report stated:—Up to September 29 the following sums have been paid into the harbour fund account:—

The receipts for the 12 months (October, 1033, to September, 1934) of the financial year total £84,062 0s lid, as compared with £82,011 17s lOd for the corresponding period of .193233. A further quantity amounting to 17,290 tons was taken from the open parts of the inner harbour, making a total ot 123 849 tons. Of this total 6370 tons were pumped into the reclamation During the earlier portion of the same period, the grab dredge Te Whaka was engaged in deepening the berths at No. 3 jetty east and the Gladstone Pier. Some work was also done in the turning basin outside the moles. The total quantity of spoil removed was 3640 tons. On September 17 the dredge was laid up for annual overhaul and survey, arid went into dock on September 25. , . , , , The crane ship Rapaki was docked for overhaul with the dredge Te Whaka on September 25. The harbourmaster reported:--The s.s. Tees was in dock from September 10 until September 17, and the m.v. Awahou from September to to September 22. The m.v. Foxton was on slip irom September 4 to September 10 During the month the tug Lyttelton has assisted 12 overseas and two intercolonial steamers into the inner harbour, besides assisting two vessels to and from the dock, also having had eight hulk removals: and m addition to maintaining the pilot service has performed many and various other duties in connexion with the harboui The weather during ihe month has been variable, with considerable ram causing interruptions to work on trie waterfront.
