CHRISTCHURCH The annual match between the combined clubs of North Canterbury and the Christchurch Golf Club, to be played on the Shirley links, will take place this year on October 14. TEMPLETON COUNTRY CLUB The championship final of the Ternpleton Club was decided during the week-end and resulted in a win for R. Spicer. who bent P. H. Barnard at the twenty-sixth hole, 11 up and 10 to play. Both these players qualified at the bottom of the qualifying round, but both played hard matches to qualify for the final. In Die morning round Barnard became 1 up at the first with a bogey three, the next two holes being halved in bogey figures. At the short fourth Spicer made the match all square with a bogey three and 1 up at the fifth with "another bogey five. The sixth was halved in one over bogey figures and Spicer, with a nicely-played five at the seventh became 2 up. Barnard with a bogey four at the eighth reduced the lead to 1 up, but an excellent birdie 4 at the ninth made Spicer 2 up at the turn. Poorer golf by both players at the tenth and eleventh resulted in halves in one over bogey, but with the exception of number 14 Spicer did the remaining seven holes in bogey figures, to be 7 up at the end of the morning round. Tn the afternoon round there was oven better play by Spicer, who won the nineteenth with a bogey three and the twentieth with a birdie three making him 9 up. Barnard won the twentyfirst with a well-played bogey five, but at the short twenty-second he found the bunker and took 4 to a perfect birdie two by Spicer. Thetwenly-third in bogey five made Spicer 10 up, but this was reduced to 9 up at the twenty-fourth, where he found tl"f") trees, taking' 7, as against bof*ey four by Barnard. At the twenty-fifth Barnard duffed his tee shot, taking 7 to a 6 by Spicer, and the latter became 10 up again, with 11 to play. At the twenty-sixth both played good tee shots and Barnard played his second to within five feet of the pin. This was countered by Spicer's approach to within two feet. He holed out a birdie three, and so won the match 11 up and 10 to play.

Teape, in declaring the -eason closed, referred to the acquisition of the new golf course. For that reason alone the season was a notable one. The present course had improved as the ?ea?on went on, but generally the greens, approaches, and fairways had deteriorated, and there was no doubt that the new course would make a big difference to the Mrs Warner presented the trophies tc the winners, as follows:—Senior championship: W.
