EAST BELT WESLEY CHURCH

BARROW FAIR AND SALE OF WORK A successful barrow fair and sale of work, organised by the trustees of the East Belt Wesley Church, was held in the Sunday school last evening. The Rev. E. Drake, in a short address, said that they were in difficult times, and the trustees were experiencing difficulty in the upkeep of the property. He said that several more efforts to raise the £2OO wanted would be made. Mr Drake then called upon Miss S. Lancaster, who sang "Come to the Fair," and after welcoming those present and thanking the organisers, declared the fair officially open. The decorated barrows were wheeled round, and the judge, Mr H. Chapman, after praising the standard of the exhibits, said that the entry of the young women's Bible class had been awarded first pri7.e. The following were in charge of the barrows:—Sweets. Mrs R. Inwood and members of the young women's Bible class; flowers, Mrs R. Sherris and members of the junior young women's Bible class; variety (fruit and produce), Mr T. Armstrong and trustees of the church; cakes, Mesdames T. Rowse and R. Allan, Misses D. Hal?, 11. and M. Vinnicombe, and Mr L. King (members of the choir); flower?, wood, and basket work, Ron Clark, Joyce' Adams, and Doris Weir (Sunday school scholars); books and magazines, Alan Spoirs; needlework, Misses V. Douglas. A. Wilson, and G. Hooper (Sunday school teachers). Mesdames S. Orchard, M. Marriott. M. E. Roberts, M. Parker, and E. Drake (members of the ladies' guild) were in charge of the work stall, and members of the young men's Bible class were in charge of the supper stall. During the evening items were given by the following: Miss S. Lancaster (song), Mrs P. Steel (recitation), and Miss I. Armitage and Mr J. H. Howarth (vocal duet). Mr A. Barker was master of ceremonies.
