A Quaint School Uniform
There is a famous public school in England where the scholars wear exactly the same kind of dress as the first boys did who went there in 1552 when King Edward the Sixth foynded the school. It is called Christ's Hospital, but it is better known as the Bluecoat School. The boys wear long blue coats, that are known as gowns, with silver buttons, a leather girdle with a silver buckle, black kneebreeches, and yellow stockings. Instead of collars and ties they wear white linen bands, just as our lawyers do when they go to the Supreme CouVt. And they n ever Winter and siimrilCTxTCeygobare-headed. Many famous men have been educated at Christ's Hospital. Charles Lamb, who wrote the essays of Elia, and, with his sister Mary Lamb, the tales from Shakespeare, went there; and also Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the great poet.
