KAIKOURA NEWS

♦ The following nominations have been received for the three seats on the directorate of the Kaikoura Co-opera-tive Dairy Company: Messrs J. D. i Boyd, A. Keenan, and A. E. Lester. An election will not be necessary, j There was a good attendance at the j Suburban Hall euchre tournament and dance. The winners at cards were Mrs M. Wareham and Mr H. Tombs. The, music for dancing was played by Mes- 1 dames H. Chapman and E. Dabinette. At a meeting of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union, the Rev F. Robertson presided. A letter was received from the North Island Maori Mission thanking members for a parcel of clothing. An address was delivered by Mrs Todd, sen., on the work of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union throughout the Dominion. The weekly session of the Workers' Educational Association was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs E. J. Watts, when members completed the study of John Galsworthy's play "Escape." Mrs C. A. Jensen was the leader. Next week the meeting will be held at the residence of Dr. and Mrs Todd, when Wagner's "Tannhauser" will be the subject. Mr Woolman will be the leader. Mrs H. Segers (Ashburton) and Miss Sogers are the guests of Mr and Mrs E. C. Smith, of the Esplanade, Kaikoura. Mrs A. S. Robinson and Miss E. Robinson left yesterday to take part in the Cowlishaw Cup, to be played for at Christchurch on Wednesday. Miss Joyce Palmer, who has been spending an extended holiday at Omihi and Christchurch, has returned to her home. Members of the local Post and Telegraph staff assembled at the residence of Mr and Mrs L. Shannon to bid farewell to Mr Ron. Gibson, who has been transferred to Waiau. A pleasant time was spent at cards, comoetitions,.and community singing. The winners at cards were Mrs J. J. Gibson and Mr J. Anstiss, the consolation prizes going to Mrs Anstiss and Miss M. Scott (equal), and Mr M. Gibson. Competitions were won, by Mr J. Anstiss and Mr E. J. Williams. Mr E. Williams, on behalf of the staff, presented Mr Gibson with a smoker's companion. Eulogistic references were made by Messrs L. Shannon, F. Hobbs, and J. OLver. Mr Gibson replied.
