ADDINGTON MARKET.

ALL-ROUND ADVANCE BEST SALE OF THE SEASON (ST C'UB COVUIICUL BDITOJt.) If farmers could be assured that yesterday's prices at Addington were to be maintained foi the remainder of the season, they would have little occasion to feel concerned about the immediate future. The circumstances, however, scarcely warrant such optimism. The excellence of the sale was in some measure due to ordinary causes, such as the plenteousness of feed, but the main reason was a short entry in each of the sections- concerned. The break in the weather over the week-end may have been the cause of this, although it is fairly apparent that there is no surplus at the moment in Canterbury in fat cattle and fat sheep. Fat cattle improved by 25s a head, fat sheep by 2s 6d, baconers and porkers by up to a halfpenny per lb, and s_ore sheep quite appreciably. OuVside entries were fairly numerous in the cattle section, and it is expecied that consignments from southern sources will be fairly regular for the next six weeks. STORE SHEEP Tho store sheep entry yesterday wa» oven smaller than last week, there being only about a dozen pons forward altogether. With so much feed in prospect there was a keen di-mand for anything, and for tho best of the offering good prices wero obtained. Best price for e\ve« was 35s for a lino of 12(i6 two-tooth halfbreds from Culver- j den. Tho sheep, although on the urnnll side, | wero well woolled and near lambing. Bid- I dini: for them was keen. Four pens of hoggets were sent in, and demand for them was spirited. The best price was 2(Js 9d, paid for a lino of 78 threo-quarterbreds from Snowdon. Thero wero only two pens of wethors, comprising 131 head, which met with a ready sale. In one pen there were 67 two, four, and six-tooth wethers from Kurow which were disposed of at tho good prico of 235. Tho sales were: Ewes—Two hundred and eixty-aix twotooth halfbred at 355. 17 two, four, six*, and eight-tooth Coriredalo ut 32s 6d, 25 two, four, m:;, und eight-tooth English Leicester at 29s 3d, 51 full arid failing-mouth halfbred at 15s 4 Jd. FAT CATTLE The entry was again oil the small side, comprising 340 head compared A\ith last week's entry of 315. A consignment of 18 extra prime cattle from the Manawatu arrived during the week, but will be offered at next sale. Outside entries included teveral truck lots from South Otago, and also from South Canterbury and the West Coast. The quality from the two first-mentioned sources was good, and that from tho West Coast medium to prime. Several fine drafts were forward from the Peninsula and North Canterbury stations. Thero was a good deal of indifferent steer and cow beef in the entry, however, the steers having gone back in condition. Tho market opened keenly at an averago advance of from 20s to 25s a head, and except for a steadying about halfway through tho keenness was maintained throughout. Prices obtained for better class cattle were reminiscent of preslump sales, and a large proportion of good beef made a full 30s per 1001b. Top price of the market was £l4 2s Cd for a steer from Kirk Bros. (Stirling), six in the lino averaging £l3 5s a head. The best average of the market, however, was £l3 7s 6d for five steers from Duncan Rutherford (Riccarion). Top price for heifers was £ll 7s 6d for one of 10 sent forward by Townloy Bros. The yarding included a good percentage of heavy bullocks, several consignments of medium quality, and the usual assortment of cows and heifers.
