ROWING
MELBOURNE CENTENARY REGATTA UNION CLUB'S CREW APPROVED (I'RESa ASSOCIATION TELEGKAM.) WELLINGTON, August 22. At a meeting of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association to-night, the secretary (Mr A. D. Bayfield) stated that the Melbourne Association had approved of the crew submitted by the Union Club, of Wanganui, to compete ai Henley during the centenary celebrations. A crew would also be competing from the London Rowing Club, the first English crew ever to visit Australia. The Union eight, Mr Bayfield said, would leave New Zealand by the Monowai on October 8. They had expressed willingness to compete at the Victoria Rowing Association's regetta on October 27. The crew would also compete in the Sydney regatta. It was decided to allow the "Wanganui crew the use of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association's best eight-oared racing boat. The following nominations were received for a senior sculler to represent New Zealand at the Henley regatta at Melbourne:—R. Smith. Waitemata Club, Auckland; P. Abbott, Pet one. It was decided to forward both nominations to the Melbourne Association. In the event of only one nomination being accepted, it was decided that Smith should be the representative.
