The Canterbury Jockey Club, after showing a substantial increase 11 on the first two days, experienced s a drop of only £1439 10s on the meeting, and the New Zealand n Metropolitan Trotting Club, also in a e happy position at the end of the second day's racing, was £2883 10s down when the meeting was conclu- >- ded. y If the totalisator business can be taken as an indication* it would v seem racing' is recovering from the slump of several years, and there is ■- a much healthier tone evident. s Since 1.929 the lowest totals regisi- tered were in 1932, when the Canj- terbury Jockey Club handled ,f £69,678, and the New* Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club £62,628 n for the meeting. The present totals . of £89,937 and £72.269 may be ref garded as at least full of promise s for better thing? to come.
