NELSON, August 18 A general restriction on all cartace contractors who carry timber and coal in competition with the railways from south of Glenhope to Nelson was an. nounced by the chairman of the Mo 7 Transport Licensing Authority (Dr. s A. "You will have an opportunity of arguing it out between now and' then. At the next meeting you can fight it out." A voice: It's a form of warning;. The chairman: It is more than * warning. A note will accompany each noticl of restriction to explain it more fully Several applicants expressed the opinion that the time allowed for appeal against any decision of the authority was rather short. It might be a week before the decisions were officially issued to applicants from the office, reducing the intended time of 21 day* to about 14. The chairman said he would. draw the attention of the Transport Board to the matter, with a recommendation that the time for noice of appeal be three weeks from the day of issue from the office of the decision. Rugby Rival defeated Nelson by 6 points to 3 to-day in what was virtually the final of the senior Rugby champion* ship. With only one more game to play, Rival cannot be displaced. Other results were:—-Senior: Old Boys 22, Pirates 0; Rovers 6, Waimea 3. Juniors: Old Boys 3, Nelson 10; Rival defaulted to Regimental. Third class: Nelson 25, Rival 4. Fourth class: The Nelson representatives drew with Motueka, neither side scoring. Hockey To-day's hockey results were:—• Senior: Kiwi 3, United 1; Waimai 2, Wakatu 2; Federal 4, Stoke 4. Junior: Stoke 3, Federal 2; Wakatu 2, Waima! 2. Women's matches (Cressy Cup): Rewa 1, Kia Ora 0. Recent guests at the Commercial Hotel, Nelson, include Messrs Green, Brooker, Fitchett, Barton, Gusscott, Hoar (Wellington), Elliott, Finlayson (Auckland), Walton (Sydney), and Mr and Mrs McCarthy (Motueka).
