THE WEATHER
The wet weather and strong winds of the previous two days continued until Saturday morning, when alter a few showers, the weather cleared. A frost of 6.4 degrees was registered yesterday morning, and the day was for the most part dull, with a cold easterly wind. Kainfull to daio ~ 19.05 in 10.93 in, In Other Centres Auckland—Fine weather and a moderate south-west wind were experienced during the week-end. The barometer rose to 30.15 in. Wellington—The weather was overcast and showery on Saturday, with a- fresh south-west breeze. Sunday was line, with sunshine and passing cloud. Dunedin—The weather was cold and unsettled in Dunedin on Saturday morning, but the afternoon was sunny and pleasant. It was a welcome change after heavy rainfall on Friday, when nearly two inches of rain fell in 25 hours. The temperature at 8 a.m. on Saturday was 40 degrees, and the maximum for the day was 47 degrees. After a morning of bright sunshine, tempered by a cool breeze from the north-west, the weather yesterday afternoon was dull and cloudy. The thermometer did not rise above 45 degress and the barometer, in spite of a tendency to fall, remained above 30.05 throughout the day. FORECAST (From readings taken at 4 p.m.> General Situation—A moderate anticyclone covers the North Tasman and New Zealand, while a slight depression is advancing across the South Tasman S£o Winds—North-westerly to westerly, moderate mainly, but freshening somewhat in and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Becoming rather rough on the west coast of the South Island; elsewhere smooth to moderate. . . Eastern Tasman Sea—North-west to west winds, moderate in the northern portion, with moderate seas; fresh to .strong in the southern portion, with rather rough seas. Weather—Mainly fair to fine, becoming unsettled to-morrow in western districts from Taranaki to Southland and the far south, with rain in places; temperatures mild.
