Miss Sarah Palfrey (United States) beat Miss Freda James (England), 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, and Miss Dorothy Andrus (Stamford, Conn.) beat Baroness Levi, 6-1, 6-4, in the quarter-finals of the American women's tennis championships. j In the semi-finals Miss Helen Jacobs (United Stales) beat Miss Caroline Babcock (United States), 7-5, 6-0. Miss Palfrey beat Miss Andrews, 6-3, 6-4. The match between Miss Jacobs and Miss Babcock produced the only firstclass tennis in the semi-finals.
