UNPLEASANT WEATHER CLUBS BUSY WITH THEIR CHAMPIONSHIPS The weather during the week-end was most uncomfortable for golf. Saturday was wet a lid cold, and Sunday was cold, with a certain amount of rain in some parts, and all courses were heavy. The rain oi Saturday morning was enough to make several clubs put off their competitions because of flooded greens. Most clubs are now busy with their championfirst round of play-off for the three championships was played at Harewood. C. Holdsworth had a win over A. R. Blank in the senior championship by 1 up. A good game was anticipated, but the victory was something of a surprise. In a four-ball bogey W. L. Lawry and E. H. Box ( came in with a splendid card of 6 up, to win comfortably. Their score was particularly good when the weather is considered. Russley played the first qualifying rounds of its championships, with stroke handicaps, and also sent a team to Ellesmere. A four-ball stroke aggregate was also played. J. R. Stevenson and A. W. Smithson led the field in the senior championship with card:; of 83, Stevenson winning the stroke handicap with a net 72. D. S. Anderson won the intermediate stroke, and G. M. Hall and G. P. Irving tied in the junior stroke. Ihe team that went to Ellesmere won the rubber by 9 games to 6. G. M. Hall and G. P. Irving, with a net 146, won the four-ball aggregate. A Lyttelton team which went to Avondale for the annual match between the two clubs found Avondale too much for it, the result being a win for Avondale by 14 games to 4. Scoring was good in the qualifying rounds of the championships played at Templeton concurrently with stroke handicaps. G. P. Anderson, who has improved markedly this season, headed the list of qualifiers in the senior event with a card of 83. He was Ave strokes ahead of A. E. Grubb, and six under his handicap. He won the senior medal. A. E. Byrne, with a 94, led the junior qualifiers, and also took the junior medal. Richmond Hill continued with the Donnelly Cup and other matches. HAREWOOD CLUB A cold north-east wind made conditions rather unpleasant for the first round of the play-off for the three championships at Harewood during the week-end. There was also a fourball bogey competition. The recent rains have slowed the course up considerably, and thr scoring in consequence was not good, with the exception of the four-ball winners. This pair, W. L. Lawry and E. H. Box„ returned a fine card of 6 up. The following are the results of the championship games:— SENIORS H. F. Robertson, a bye. C. Holdsworth beat A. R. Blank, 1 up. N.
