RUGBY AND BASKETBALL
<? HIGH SCHOOLS' TOURNAMENT The annual seven-a-side Rugby and basketball tournaments among district high schools in North Canterbury was held at South Hagley Park yesterday. About 120 footballers and about 140 girls took part. The winning team in the A grade Rugby tournament was Lyttelton A, which has also won the secondary schools' Wednesday competition. The winners specialised in fast, open back play, with short, quick passes, and reflected credit on their coach, Mr L. Hayman, who plays in the senior University team. The winner of the B grade was Methven, which beat New Brighton in the final. New Brighton was really the stronger team but had suffered some casualties earlier in the tournament. The basketball tournament was won by Methven in the senior grade, and by Ha warden in the junior grade.
