BULLETIN ON HALFBRED RAMS
to ths *t>rroa or thk spess. Sir,—ln "The Press" of August 16 "Shepherd" seems to make the Lincoln College bulletin an excuse for an un-called-for attack on the Corriedale sheep. It is rather significant that this very experienced person opens his attack in agreeing with Mr Geo. Reid that the Corriedales are good sheep in good hands. Surely this admission alone makes his criticism of very little value, as he must admit, if he is a man of experience (which he so loudly professes), that no breed of sheep or any other animal is of much value in bad hands. He is in error in saying that the Corriedale is supposed to be inbred Lin-coln-merino alone, as the conditions under which the New Zealand Flock Book and Corriedale Flock Book accept flocks for registration provide that j the origin must be merino and longwool sheep of any pure breed. I do not propose to deal with "Shepherd's" criticism any further unless he is prepared to come out into the open and sign his name, bo that we may all know whp + her he is an experienced sheep man and qualified to speak. Neither am I going to compare the halfbred with the Corriedale, as, in my opinion, they are both good sheep in good hands. With regard to his pertinent questions, I wish to say that I have had a registered Corriedale flock for 25 years, and have never had a halfbred ram or any merinos on my property during that period. Furthermore, I am willing to have my flock of 4400 Corriedales compared with any other j flock of similar size at any time, j In conclusion, I would like to cont gratulate Mr Geo. Reid on his fab - and i unbiased letter. —Yours, etc. < OWEN T. EVAN'S. ! August 17, 1934. !
