Reconstruction of the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council to provide for a membership of six, two to be elected by Auckland city voters, two by suburban voters, and two by suppliers, was suggested in i a report by the Industries and Com- I merce Committee which was tabled ' in the House of Representatives. In accordance with the legislation passed last year, the council as first set up-comprised nine members. Three were appointed on the recommendation of the Auckland City Council and two were appointed to represent other local bodies in the district. After consultation between the Minister for Industries and Commerce and the local bodies, two were appointed to represent the i milk vendors_and two to represent! dairymen. It was further provided | that in February, 1935, and at two-: yearly intervals thereafter, the; local bodies and organisations con- ' ceraed should meet to elect their j representatives, the basis of representation being in the same ratio as fot the original board. The suggestion for altering the board's constitution was made by the committee in reporting on 17 widely-signed petitions, seeking repeal of the Milk Act. The committee's report was as follows: "In the opinion of the committee, the petitions should be referred to the Government for consideration. The committee, however, is of the ! opinion that amendment to th?
