HIGH SCORES OF THE PAST The present series of test malch'as in England has contributed to the records for big totals. England's score of 627 for nine wickets at Manchester has only once been 'exceeded by an English team, and there # have been only four better scores by Australia than the 584 recorded at Leeds. The Leeds match, too, produced the largest total for any wicket stand by either team, Bradman and Ponsford putting on the huge total of 388 for the fourth wicket. Lowest Totals The smallest totals recorded are as fcllows:— ENGLAND 45—Sydney, 1886-87. AUSTRALIA 36—Edgbaston, 1902. 42—Sydney, 1887-88. 44—The Oval, 1898.
