COTTON WORKERS' STRIKE

♦ AMERICAN DEMANDS (Received August 17, 10.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 16. A general strike in the cotton textile industry, was ordered today by a convention of the United Textile Workers, probably for September 1. The chief demands are the abolition of company unions, and a 30-hour week with 40 hours' pay.
