GOOD ATTENDANCE YESTERDAY FURTHER ATTRACTIONS TOR CHILDREN Despite the rain in the evening, there . was another good attendance at the Winter Show yesterday. Beside the large number of children from city schools who attended, a parly of boys from the Hokitika High School were the quests of the management. Stallholders reported that business had been promising increasingly well since the show started, and has shown a distinct improvement on that of the last four years. Adults who paid for admission yesterday numbered 2360. arid children 440. During the morning 010 children attended' from Sumner. Wharenui, and Christchurch West <4OO boys;, and in the afternoon 1811 came from Addington, Beckenham. Heathcote. Opawa. Christchurch West <4OO girls). Technical College, Marist Bros., St. Michael's. St. Anne's, and Woolston schools. In all. 2421 children saw the show. " Most of the city and suburban schools have arranged for their pupils to visit the show, and next, week pupils from country and West Coast schools will begin their visit.':. To-m6rrow will be orphans' day at the show, when 300 boys and girls from city institutions will be the guests of the organisers. An attractive programme of amusements has been arranged for them. On MoncL ; r there will be a free day for children accompanied by parents, and throughout the week there will be special entertainment for the children in the shape of a playlet, in which Mickey the Mouse will be the hero. Special attractions yesterday were a Punch and Judy show in the afternoon. and in the evening a dance recital by Miss Muriel Waugh's pupils, and selections by Ihe New Brighton Municipal Band. Punch and Judy shows will be en this afternoon as well as a gymnastic display by Mr C. Buckett's pupils. Derry's Band wiil supply the music in the evening, and a very successful sketch. "The Bachelor's Club," will be repeated. VISITORS FROM THE SCHOOLS TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS FOR the week Children from many Canterbury and West Coast schools will travel to' the city bj- (rain during Hie next week to visit Ihe Winter Show. Details of the arrivals are as follows: - Saturday—From Hokitika '2o>. Monday—From Burnett's Face, Buller <lß*. Wednesday—From Kowhai Bush, Greendale, Ashley. Te Moana, Milford, Parnassus, Torrnore. Rakaia. Thursday--From Seflon and the following West Coast schools:—Aickcns, Dobson. Kokiri. Te Kinga, Ruru,. Blackball, Runanjia, Greymouth, Ahaura. Friday—From Kirwee. Oxford, combined Waiau, Culverden, Balmoral. Medbury, Hawarden. Rotherham, Waikari. On Salurday, August 25. a special train will leave Christchurch for th■ > West Coast to carry the children home. The train will leave at 0.30 a.m.
