HEATHCOTE NEWS
SCHOOL COMMITTEE At a meeting of the Heathcote School Committee, Mr W. J. Burnell presided. The headmaster (Mr F. A. Silcoek) reported the roll number at 97 (54 boys and 43 girls), and the average attendance 84.7. The school will be closed on October 1, 2, and 3, while Ihe teachers are away at the refresher course. A visit was paid by two members of the Canterbury Education Board, and the buildings and ground:; were inspected by them. It was decided to use the No. 5 unemployment scheme for improving the grounds. Literary and Fellowship Society The Heathcote Methodist Literary and Fellowship Society held its weekly meeting on Wednesday evening. The chairman was the Rev. T. J. Wallis. who gave an address on the lessor parables in the Bible. Instead ol the usual meeting next Wednesday, there will be a foreign mission lecture given by the Rev. A. H. Scrivcn.
