Haziness developed into a mist in the afternoon, and the wind veered i'rcrrt north to west find increased in force. The barometer i'e!) steadily. The temperature at 4 p.m. was GO degrees. Wellington—A boisterous northwesterly wind blew yesterday, the highest gust being one of (58 mil 'f. an hour. Very heavy ruin amounting to Bfi points fell between 9 a.m. and 10.20 a.m., and there were frequent showers during the remainder of t- e day, the total fall up to 4 p.m. beiig 108 points. The temperature at 4 p.m. was 52 degrees, and the maximum for the day was 56 degrees. Dunedin —There was a continuation of tine weather yesterday, and a lig.'it southerly breeze. The thermometer registered 56 degrees at midday. The barometer fell to 29.26 in at 2 p.m.; but later rose slightly.
FORECAST (From readings taken at 4 p.m.) General Situation—A depression was crossing the Dominion to-day, with its centre in the south. An anti-cyclone now covers the whole of Australia. Winds—Strong to gale force, northerly to westerly north of Westport and Kaikoura; elsewhere southerly and a general southerly change likely within the next 10 to 16 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough to heavy. Eastern Tasman Sea —Strong southwest winds to gales; heavy seas. Weather—Unsettled, with rain generally.
